Passive-aggressive ways to hurt people in the office — My birthday story

I do not want to keep quiet. I am allowing myself to call out passive-aggressive behavior. I do not feel that calling out the name of corporate is important because it’s a story of people; people who can make life at the office pleasing or unpleasing.

Today I will focus on my birth-day stories. I like them, I like to get wishes on my birthday; I like to get them from my overseas team too, from people who I work with, who are part of the same groups as me. I get sweets to the office and offer it to anyone I can, I know. I share my good day with them; that is me.

I am shy to tell people over the phone, or mail, that it’s my birthday, wish me. My manager has my birthday intimation mail in their inbox from HR system. They can send mail to bigger groups but they do not; it does not see the light of the day; it does not get shared with anyone.
Yes, this has been done to me for a few years. I regularly get emails from other seniors about the birthday announcements of my colleagues. I have to endure this, a kid in me who wants birthday wishes compromised. I have to wait for a manager who could see beyond their petty issues to share my birthday mail.

In our day to day life, corporate culture failed me. People hiding behind the name of corporate failed me. People who for their petty issues, did not share my good news with others, failed me.

Corporate has people managers and human resource teams. But corporate is a beast that is not ready to be tamed. It’s corporate, it has no heart. It’s all business. Profits matter; people do not.

I know that people on important corporate posts will oppose this; and they will give me various examples of how corporates have been taking care of their employees. But can they tell me why managers are failing to do small things that can make a difference? People are corporate, people make corporate.

We are not allowed to react, we are not allowed to feel; it’s corporate, it’s a job. Do not share your stories with anyone; especially not on a public platform; There is a fear instilled in this culture; keep quiet and keep thriving.

Today I am free because I share this with all of you. I ask you to take care of your people in small possible ways. The corporate should be a community that cares, not a name that allows you to take away someone’s birthday wishes.
